THE LAWS OF LOVE PART 4

Fernando held Marcia’s hands tight in his own.  “Marcia please, don’t torment yourself asking such questions.  I can’t answer that—it wouldn’t be fair to you”.  “Please Fernando, I need to know because I feel like I’m losing you.  And I’m scared.  Now that Lety is back, I know you will try to win her back.  I’d rather we end our relationship now then have to go thru more agony and pain later”. 

Fernando had the opportunity right there and then to end it all with Marcia.  He could have told her the truth.  That yes, he loves Lety and that he wants her back more than anything in the world.  But why?  What difference did it make what he wanted, if Lety had already told him that she wanted him out of her life forever.  He was frightened.  He didn’t want to be left completely alone and empty, without anyone who cared about him.  Without anyone to love him.  He knew he was being selfish.  But perhaps with time his heart would slowly erase the mark that Lety had left behind.  Perhaps his pain would diminish slowly with each passing day.  

For once in your life Fernando…………..do the right thing and speak with your heart.  Be open and honest and let everything fall as they may.  These were his thoughts and with renewed strength he answered her question.

“Marcia, you can’t pick who your heart falls in love with, I’m sorry.  I can’t lie to you and tell you that seeing Lety again doesn’t affect me.  I can’t deny that my heart still beats for her.  Her memory has been engraved in my very soul and it has not been easy to erase her.  I know my words hurt you….and for that I am truly sorry Marcia.  But please believe me when I tell you that I am trying to forget her.  Once again I ask you to please help me forget”.  He let out a sigh of relief as if a huge weight had been lifted from his shoulders. 

Marcia’s eyes were filled with tears.  Even though deep within herself she already knew all this, it was the most painful thing to actually hear it from the man she loved.  Her spirit was chattered and she didn’t know how she would ever be able to pick up the pieces.  She wanted to scream out her pain.  She wanted Fernando to know how his words had cut her so deep.  But all she could do was cover her face with her hands and shed all the bitter tears she had inside. 

“If you never want to see me again, Marcia, I understand.  But if you still love me and want to try to recapture everything that we lost, then I’m here….willing to try”. 

Back at Conceptos, Lety was just finishing up a proposal which she planned to present to the Committee the following morning.  She had just shut her computer off when Aldo walks in with his ever present smile and charisma.  “Why the long face Lety…..are you alright”?  Aldo was genuinely concerned about her.  He wanted so much to hold her in his arms and tell her that he was there to help in any way possible.  He would’ve confessed his love right then and there if it wasn’t for Don Erasmo, who had just happened to come out of his new office….Lety’s old Cueva.  Lety did the polite thing and introduced the two men to one another.  Don Erasmo took a liking to Aldo immediately.  His eyes spoke of truth and loyalty.  As he continued to speak with Aldo, he saw in the young man’s eyes another emotion that almost made him chuckle out loud.  He could see how Aldo was looking at Lety.  He remembered this look, for it was exactly the same look of love that he had whenever he saw his dear Julietta.  Don Erasmo smiled.  He couldn’t explain why this young suitor did not bother him.  He continued to watch Lety and Aldo interact with one another and was happy to see that there was a little sparkle in Lety’s eyes as well.  He was excited to see Lety smile again.  It had been a long time since he had seen his little girl happy.
